How do I set up and manage my alerts?

Last updated on September 23, 2021

Set up alerts to notify you of new volume issues of specific journals or book-series added on ScienceDirect, or new articles on ScienceDirect that match your search request.

Some information on alerts before getting started:

  • All alerts are sent to the email address associated with your account. You can change your email address by updating your account details.
  • Alerts will be sent when new results are available only.

Set up alerts

Subscribe to a new journal or book-series alert

Set up journal or book-series alerts to be alerted when a new issue or volume comes out. Follow these steps:

  1. Search or browse for the publication you want to receive alerts on and open the publication home page.
  2. Select ‘Set up journal/book series/handbook alerts'  under 'Articles & Issues' or 'Chapters & Volumes' and choose the alert type.
    • If this option isn't available it might be the series or journal was discontinued or transfered to another publisher.
  3. Select ‘Save’.

Please note: An alert will only be sent after publication of the whole issue or volume. Issues in progress will not trigger the alert. To keep track of calls for papers or special issues, view our Calls for papers page.

  3. Enter the name of the search alert.
  4. Select the frequency in which you want the search to run.
  5. Select ‘Save’.

Manage alerts

  1. Select your username at the top navigation bar.
  2. Select ‘Manage alerts’.
  3. Select the Journals & Book series or Search tab.
  4. Select one of the following actions:
    • Edit – Modify the content type of alert and select ‘Save’.
    • Delete – Select to remove the alert and then select ‘Confirm delete’.
    • Download your alerts as a .CSV - Download your alerts information.

Notes:

  • Alerts may also be deleted by selecting the ‘Unsubscribe’ link which appears in the alert email.
